REDUNDANCY SUPPORT SERVICE FOR APPRENTICES

 

The last few months have been a challenging and unprecedented time for organisations with widespread job cuts and losses as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Young people have been especially hard hit, which has left many experienced, skilled apprentices without an employer.
 

In September, the Department for Education introduced a Redundancy Support Service for Apprentices. The free service aims to support apprentices who have been made redundant or who feel they are at risk of redundancy.
 

Information for apprentices

If you are an apprentice, you can call the helpline on 0800 015 0400 to speak to a dedicated adviser for free careers advice and help in finding a new job and apprenticeship opportunity. The service will also signpost you to a range of national support services in areas such as financial, health and wellbeing, and legal services.
 

You can also register with the vacancy sharing service to find employers who are interested in hiring talented apprentices like you – just complete the online registration form and you will receive regular updates of any potential employers and new opportunities.
 

Information for employers

The Department for Education is also keen to hear from employers who could support redundant apprentices by sharing details of any apprenticeship vacancies.
 

There has never been a better time to take on an apprentice. In addition to filling skills gaps and building on their existing job specific skills, you could be eligible to get up to £2,000 for each new apprentice you hire using new incentive payments for employers - only available until 31st January 2021.
